Entry Deadline
Registration closes 30 days prior to each KDA event. Please see tour dates above!
Dance Subjects
Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, Modern, Contemporary, Acro, Lyric, Music Theatre and Open (for any dance which does not fit into another category). There will be no more than 3 acrobatic tricks allowed in any category other than acro.
Age Division
Preschool 6 & under
Mini 7-8
Petite 9-10
Junior 11-12
Teen 13-15
Senior 16-18
Adult 19+
In the case of groups, take the average age of all dancers and drop the decimal point.
Solo age is based on the dancer’s age the day of the event.
Entry Divisions
Non-Competitive: These students will compete for critiques only. No awards will be given.
Recreational: For students who participate in 3 or less hours of dance weekly – including rehearsals. Any dancer in this division should not compete in more than 2 dances. .
Pre-Competitive: For dancers that have NEVER competed in any style of dance previously. In the case of duos through Production no more than 10% of the routine’s participants should have competed previously.
Competitive: For dancers that have competed in the past and dance more than 3 hours a week including rehearsals.
Kaleidoscope Exceptional Division: New this year! We are so excited to offer this opportunity to dancers of all abilities to help them express their love of dance! As we believe dance is for everybody! This division is for those with learning differences, unique abilities and special needs. Dancers may compete with or without helpers. Our judges will have feedback appropriate for your dancers.

Time Limits
Solos: 3 minutes
Duo/Trios: 3 minutes
Groups: 3 minutes 30 seconds
Extended: 5 minutes
Productions: 7 minutes
Award System
There will be three judges adjudicating for the following awards:
180-209: Honorable Mention
210-229: Bronze
230-239: High Bronze
240-259: Silver
260-269: High Silver
270-284: Gold
285+: High Gold
Special Awards
We will have a judge dedicated to special awards. These are not tied to other scores your dancer will receive.
High Score Awards
High score will be awarded as follows:
Age Division / Classification
High Score Awards will be given in each age division for each classification in which there are 4 or more entries. Scores are based on Performance only. First place Solos receive $50, Duo/Trio $75, Groups $100.
Choreography High Score awards will be given “12 & Under” and “13 & Over”. Scores are based on Choreography only. One given for solo and one for duo-production. Three places will be awarded.
Over Adjudication
Overall Adjudication awards will be given to both soloists and duo through production in “12 & Under” and “13 & Older”. Scores are based on a combination of performance and choreography scores. Costume scores will not be a part of this. In addition, Overall Adjudication winners will receive a $300 CASH AWARD. Second place will receive a $200 CASH AWARD and third place will receive a $100 CASH AWARD as well as award banners.
Dori Silva Award
The Dori Silva Memorial Award is given to one routine in 12 and under and in 13 and over that best
depicts the love of dance that our beloved Dori presented. This award is chosen by the judges.
In Lieu of Placement Trophies
Community Outreach: KDA will be making a donation to an organization that is local to each of our events.
Music
We will have a music upload link available to studios as we get closer to the event. Each entry should bring a backup of music on a device such as a phone or laptop.
Rules
The following is a list of rules. Failure to comply can result in disqualification of the studio. Teachers please pass rules #6
and #9 onto your parents.
1) All solos will compete against solos, all duo/trios will compete against duo/trios, and all groups will compete against groups, and all extended and productions will compete against extended and productions. Each of these entries will also be divided by age and type of dance.
2) A dancer will be allowed to perform a maximum of two solos, all of which must be a different style of dance. A third may be added if the event does not sell out.
3) No teachers, student or parent will hold Kaleidoscope Dance Events, LLC responsible for injuries and/or loss or
damage to personal property.
4) The use of hand held or free standing props is allowed with the following exceptions:
A) Use of fire.
B) Use of swords or knives.
5) The judge’s decision is final. No teacher, student or
Parent will be allowed to approach or question judges.
6) There is no photography or videotaping allowed.
7) There will be no fee charged for people viewing competition.
8) Kaleidoscope has the right to extend the competition to an extra day if needed.
9) Kaleidoscope reserves the right to close the competition when full.
10) All refunds given will be at the discretion of the director.
11) All Studio Fees must be paid in full prior to allowing any studio entries to compete.
12) All entry fees must be in one payment, cashiers checks, money orders, or studio check please. Individual checks will be returned. Please make all payments payable to Kaleidoscope Dance Events, LLC. Payments can also be made via credit card over the phone.
Media
All dancers will receive video and photos at no additional fee.
